In Praise Of The Horse

Tribute To The Human/Equine Bond

To My Owner
Written & Contributed By

My dear, sweet, loving owner
You've been an honest friend
And you don't know how much it means to me
To have you here with me in the end.

I feel my time is growing short
The pain is cutting like a knife
Please don't feel guilty for your choice
To lovingly end my life.

In this decision that you have made
I ask that you not waver
For in the end you're setting me free
To live eternally with my Savior.

Run your hands lovingly through my mane
And gently rub my belly
Scratch my chest please, one last time
I feel my eyes are getting heavy.

My life was long and full of hardship
Until you came and rescued me
You loved and cared for a forgotten horse,
And for that unselfish service, forever grateful I shall be.

My body's getting weaker
And my heartbeat now is slow
But there's one more thing that I must say
Sweet owner, before I go:

Though I leave this mortal world
I will forever be with you
I'll walk beside you every mile
To prove that my love was true.

Know this, dear owner, that when the day comes
And your time on earth is through
I'll come for you, I'll lead you home
And cross over that bridge with you.
