The Meadow
(Can be sung to the tune of
"Down by the Salley Gardens")
In the flower-dappled meadow, idyllic moments
pass.
The mares bide on the hillside to graze on green, green grass.
An ancient song is blowing through the stoic trees.
Silken manes of red and flaxen float gently on its breeze.
Oh, may I often linger within the meadow
wide,
To see my lovely ladies grazing peacefully side by side.
Their coats of glossy chestnut shine golden in the sun,
Til dusky shadows settle, and summer's day is done.
My heart will ever remember the joy that it
had found
Tween solid earth and azure sky, while I sat on the ground.
Let their bright spirits come again, this hallowed earth to grace,
Whene'er I walk the grassy hill, that light may fill this
place.
Their coats of glossy chestnut shine golden
in the sun,
Til dusky shadows settle and summer's day is done.
