Take Care And Goodnight
Written & Contributed By
Vikki Hopper

I looked deeply into your beautiful eyes
Inside I could hear my heartbroken cries.

I knew the answer straight away
my angel, you had to go away.

Your legs were tired, your heart was weak
I couldn't help anymore, I wished you could speak.

Instead I had to make the choice
irresponsible me being your voice!

It was the hardest decision to ever make
Whether to keep you with me or let the angels you take.

I found it so hard to say goodbye
I didn't want you to see me cry.

I promised you it would be okay
I hope it was when you slept that day.

Your final sleep so free from pain
Your beautiful spirit ran free again.

I wish I had said my final goodbye
I wish I hadn't let you see me cry.

For each day now I cry for you,
for all the things I would love to do.

To be dragged once again across the field
To take off over a jump seconds after you squealed.

To kiss you again and say Goodnight
To see those eyes so cheeky and bright.

I hope that you are happy now
That you'll come one day and see me somehow.

That you come and visit me when I'm asleep
And leave me a memory to cherish and keep.

To keep me strong throughout the day
And help me now you've gone away.

We will meet again when the time is right
Until then my angel, take care and Goodnight.

For my beloved horse, Blaze,
who passed away in August 2006.
