Hoofbeats In Heaven
In Praise Of The Horse

Tribute To The Human/Equine Bond

My Horse, My Friend
Written & Contributed By
Lynne Barrett

A twinkled eye of gentleness
An ever watchful gaze
You stop mid-munch and prick your ears
Then drop your head to graze.

Your cheeky look and busy step
Belie your ageing years
Your sun kissed dapples gleaming as
I wipe away a tear.

For words are no enrichment to
This bond declared through trust
We've shared a secret language that
Was meant for none but us.

But now you're only equine scrap
Too old and tired for jumps
They'd put you in the classifieds
And hide your lumps and bumps.

They'd sell you cheap and count their notes
No questions asked for sure
But I won't part for anything
You've given so much more.

So graze awhile, enjoy the sun
You've earned your home for life
Mere cash gives no companionship
Our friendship asks no price.
