In Praise Of The Horse

Tribute To The Human/Equine Bond

Melody
Written & Contributed By

You looked at me and told me it was time to go,
I couldn't come to you and I couldn't tell you "No",
But I stood closely and called your name,
"Melody, I love you and I can't watch you suffer through such pain."

I couldn't watch but I felt you leave,
Your spirit is what has always made me believe.
I looked to the heavens and shouted "why?"
But I knew you had tried all you could try.

For two long days and two long nights,
I held on to you too tight.
I could find no comfort or no peace,
My pain would not cease.

Then on the third night you came with the most powerful force,
Angry winds tore through the land from a fiery source.
You beckoned from above, for me to let go,
Your breath blew down on me below.

"There is LIFE waiting for me beyond the rainbow,
I know you love me but you have to let go.
Release my spirit into the light,
It is now time for me to take flight."

I let out the last sad tear,
Turned toward the heavens and felt no fear.
"May you run through the pastures and kick up your heels,
I always want you to know how that feels."

I know I will join you someday,
You will meet me and we will ride over that bridge to a land far away.
Go now and be beautiful and free,
For I have learned that you will always surround me.
