This braided tail of blended color
So silky to the touch
A small hint of the beauty
Of the horse you loved so much

 A love that started when she was born
A foal still on the ground
And through the years it grew so deep
As she carried you around
 
Her sculpted head and smallish size
Belied an awesome heart
But you had seen that early on
Right from the very start
 
As she tossed her head, her eyes would flash
Her spirit was not contained
And as she pranced, you laughed and yelled
“Now Addie, find your brain!”
 
Gone far too soon, we miss her so
Eternally wild and free
An all too clear reminder
Of life’s fragility
 
And when your time on earth is done
On the other side, she’ll wait
And astride her, she will carry you
Straight up to heaven’s gate.
