On July 4th I said goodbye to my best friend, my rock and my other half. I was the luckiest girl to have the privilege to own such an amazing horse. I owned Zues for 6 years, he was an amazing horse, he taught many young kids to ride, he made me into the person I am today and touched so many peoples' lives, including mine.
I got Zues in 2008 and he was left in a pasture for a few years because he was too much to handle. I got introduced to him and there was an instant connection, I bought him a few weeks later. We did lots of gymkhanas together, did the rockyford relay and that was the day he saved my life. Zues hit a mesh fence and it was locked and he came over backwards and should have landed on me but he twisted his body and made it so he only landed on my leg and I'll forever be grateful for that.
Me and Zues had such an amazing bond that I was able to trick ride on him and even ride him bareback and bridleless and jump him like that. And on June 27th the worst thing that could have ever happened happened, the vet came out to check on him because he had been sore for a while after a fall in the field when my friend was riding him, turns out he was sore in his hocks and had arthritis and the vet said the best option was to put him down, so I was given 8 days to spend with him and I spent every last day with him and even got the chance to ride him one last time. The day finally came to say goodbye and I sat with him until he took his last breath and slipped away to run free.
I will forever miss this amazing boy, he was always there for me to cry on. I'm gonna miss when he would whinny when I would walk out to the field, all in all I'm gonna miss my best friend forever.
Thank you for teaching me so much, baby boy, there will never be another horse like you. Run free, baby boy, I will see you up there again one day and we will ride free of pain.
