I Dreamed of Friesians
Like many people, I had
dreams of the perfect horse in my head. The breed Friesian, to me the most
awesome, and beautiful horse imaginable, I first saw one in the movie
"LadyHawke".
Then again in an ad for
a Stallion by the name of Nero. That image stuck with me and I was forever
yearning for this beautiful black horse to be mine.
In 1994, I met the wonderful
stallion [now deceased] Frans 289 at the Denver Horse Expo. I oogled all
of the friesians there, and left more smitten than ever.
In August of 2000, I was
able to acquire my own friesian. A stallion aged 18 months, named Wiepke
P [pronounced Wip-Ka] I always called him the Big Goof, for that truly did
exemplify his personality.
He was such a character,
it would take me pages to tell you the many amusing things he pulled over
the 5 years that I had him, he had the personality of 10 horses!
On November 29, 2005, I
came home to find him dead in the pasture, of unknown causes. I am glad that
I was the one to find him, and that no one had to come knocking on my door
to tell me such dreaded news, somehow I think that was meant to
be.
I wish I had been able
to have a necropsy done to find his cause of death. Unfortunately, I will
never know, and will forever wonder what took my big beautiful boy from
me.
Healing is slow, and I miss
him terribly. He will always hold a very special one of a kind place in my
heart & mind.
Wiepke, your stay with me
was too short, and I will always dream of all of the things we missed out
on together.
I know how you must be
enjoying the lush green grass in your new pasture beyond the Bridge. And
when we meet again, we will finally get to ride over those endless hills
and view awesome sunsets together again.
Your Beloved Human,
Mary
