This is about reconnecting to my love of horses, with a handsome bay gelding
named Toby. After raising 3 beautiful daughters and meeting a man who loved
me enough to encourage my dreams, I met Toby. He was with me for 10 wonderful
years.
We had great times, won lots of ribbons, trail rode and took swims
together. He put up with my photography sessions like he was born
to be a model. He was my mental health fix, he made me smile, cry and
appreciate what is important in life.
He had some ups and downs with chronic lameness and had a surgery that corrected
it for several years, but there came a time that getting out and enjoying
himself was just too much. He spent the last several months teaching a little
Tobiano filly named Sassy who was boss.
We will miss Toby. He passed away humanely and peacefully, with his head in
my arms, telling him what a good boy he was. Rest well, my boy, you have
fought the good fight. You have finished the race.
