On the 26th of October 2015, I lost my best friend and soulmate, Smartie. I still can't get used to not seeing your beautiful little face over the stable door in the morning, or hearing you scream to me in the morning for your breakfast!
I never thought I could love something as much as I love you, little man, after having you in the family for over 18 years of your life, and having you as my own for 8 years, we grew such a great bond together. You were such a little monkey to ride but you and I knew each other so well - we knew how to work together. All the fun you gave me hunting, jumping hedges and fences that neither of us could see over... And occasionally putting in the odd whiplash when I was off guard to keep me on my toes!
It really was the hardest decision I've ever had to make sweetheart, but I knew it was the kindest thing to do for you rather than let you suffer this winter. I know you're at peace now in a wonderful place enjoying yourself with sun on your back and getting fat with all the nice green grass!! I have your ashes in the living room and have a little shrine for you - I light you a candle every night in memory of you, and kiss you good night in the morning and at night.
I love you, you were the best thing that ever happened to me, so until we meet again my dearest, most loyal friend. I'll be thinking of you, day in, day out.
