Appendix Quarter Horse 27 years old March 8, 1985 - January 17, 2012 Who I am today is because of you. You taught me to listen, to trust and to love. No other relationship in my life has ever come close to our connection.  The 20 years we had together were the best times of my life.  I am bereft without the bond we had that allowed us to either go off on our own or to join our wonderful friends riding trails from the beaches to the mountains.  How will I ever find anything to come close to our quiet times in the woods listening to the wildlife or our wild gallops cross the fields. I have a hole in my heart none shall fill...I miss you so much.  Well, except maybe when you wouldn't let me catch you...oh, how you could make me crazy. I will never forget the time I followed you for an hour in the field hoping you'd give it up...but no, not you. But you did redeem yourself...the countless hours you babysat new horses, the way you always took care of me and made me look good. Remember our first "chat"...it was one of our first rides together and you spooked and spun...I told you you couldn't do that anymore as I might fall off and if you took care of me I would take care of you...and you never spun again...and after a while the only spooking you did was if you had been ignored too long and wanted to make sure I was paying attention and appreciated how wonderful you were...you did have a healthy ego. Another "chat" we had...f you got to run a bit in the beginning when we went out, you were a perfect gentleman after...how many times did we have to turn around while the others went sedately on so we could run like a courser and then calmly join our companions like a palfrey. We had quite a few bargains, didn't we, my friend... And toward the end you got to have your retirement, with bare feet, lots of buddies and a big field to play in. And a few days ago you went quietly to that heavenly plain to run free... I will be along later and I will be looking for you. But please don't be such a pain about being caught...
