Sandy

1985 - 05/09/2011

One special day when I was young, I was lucky enough to meet Sandy.
She looked over the stable door, and my Dad and I knew that she was the one.
She was so beautiful with her golden coat, black mane and tail,
But more than that, she called to me with her eager chestnut eyes, and lively spirit.

Our days in Thickwood were such fun, and Sandy was always by my side.
I loved to sit on her back in the stable with my arms around her warm, strong neck;
Watch her munching hay with her wriggling sweet smelling nose;
Have her follow me around the field, and playing chase;
hacking out for hours with only each other for company – listening to the clip clop of her neat hooves, chatting and enjoying the peacefulness of the countryside.
She loved to stand in the stream, whilst we listened to the flowing water,
And then we would gallop off into the next field, with adrenaline racing.
She was always so alert and keen – so full of life.
We often had Holly for company, as she raced Sandy and decided on a different way home, but always we would arrive home feeling happy, finishing with a pat and a rub.
Ginny liked to sleep on her back, and once rolled by Sandy and tapped her nose, and Sandy playfully tapped her back gently with her hoof.
Jack, Montgomery, Doris and Jacqueline, followed her around, and would baa until her return from a hack.

Whilst away travelling, and at University, I am so thankful that I was able to keep my Sandy.
This was achieved by Dad's watchful eye, and Mum's devoted care.
I was then able to bring Sandy to her new home in Bridgeyate, where she lived happily.
I loved to spend all of my spare time with Sandy.
Days off would be spent on long hacks, meeting Mum and Holly for pub lunches.
Mucking out and caring for Sandy was a joy, and she would always brighten up my day.
She always knew of my imminent arrival, and greeted me with a heart warming neigh.
Noah, although now only two, enjoyed seeing ‘Mummy's horsey’, and giving her carrots;
And after his birth, help from Mark and Marcia ensured her five star care.

Sandy was my best friend, and was part of me.
I was so lucky to have her in my life, and am glad that I was able to care for her.
I will always miss her, and she will forever be in my thoughts.
I cannot remember life without Sandy, and I know normal won’t be normal again.
But I know that she had a lovely life, and I know that she adored me.
Thank you Sandy for always being so wonderful, and for making me, me.

Rest in peace my beautiful, love you now and forever.

Emily Lomas
