This is a picture of Sable
with her first baby, Colonels Miss Dunit, 'Sammi Jo". Sable gave me 3 gorgeous
babies.
We live in an extremely
rural area, and occasionally a mountain lion passes through. We also have
bobcats and coyotes in the area. Sable had a 2 month old filly by her side
when she was taken from me. Something spooked her during the night, and I
believe as she spun around, she lost her footing and went down. She was still
with me when I went out to feed. I absolutely cannot go into too many details
because I still cry so hard. She was only 7 when she was taken from me. We
freed her from where she had been lodged. She stood on her own, and I led
her out of that area. I believe her windpipe was crushed in the way she had
been lodged. She began choking for air and couldn't get any. I pulled the
lead rope so tight so she wouldn't fall and eased her down. She died in my
arms and I couldn't do anything for her.
Sable was always looking toward the house for me and was always talking just as soon as she
saw me, wherever I happened to be. I miss that so much. All of my horses
are like a big bunch of kids. They are so friendly and loving. My others
talk as well, but she was just so special to me. I cry every day for her
and know she is in heaven waiting for me. I know I will hear her voice above
all the others when I get there.
Sable, beautiful spirit
that you are, we will be together again someday.
