Thank you for this opportunity. This past Valentines Day I had to say
goodbye to my sweet horse, Reddy. His registered name was Fletchers Magic.
He was a 16 year old (almost 16) Appaloosa gelding.
I got Reddy from an auction the same month he turned into a yearling. He
was tiny and abused and had been headed for the killers' pens. He was my
friend and companion for such a long time, through the good, the bad and
the ugly.
He lost much of his eyesight to moon blindness, then developed cancer,
which sadly, our vet couldn't remove. Reddy was a fighter till the end, though
he stayed on pain killers during his last weeks. He was fiery, but kind and
gentle and so great. He loved everyone here and never refused a
treat.
Reddy in his own way rescued his stablemate from slaughter as well.
Penny was untouchable when we had her delivered from her seller, abused and
afraid, but with Reddy's constant reassurance that no one would hurt her
and apples were good to eat, she is also now a sweety. She is grieving for
him now and we try to help her through it.
We miss Reddy so much. He loved to stand in the doorway and watch TV,
or stick his head in the kitchen window for a treat. Thank you for posting
my tribute to him. He is greatly missed.
