Rain came into this world
as a surprise to us. We had just purchased two horses, and over the course
of the first few months of owning, we noticed the mare we bought was getting
huge. Sure enough, she was expecting.
On April 6, 2008, Rain arrived. My husband discovered her during the morning
routine. I will never forget that morning, it was love at first sight. She
was so perfect and tiny. We watched in awe as she took her first steps and
began exploring her world. We became fast friends and she would follow us
everywhere. She would greet us in the morning with her little baby whinny
and fly across the pasture to greet us. She was such a spunky little
one.
Rain left us Friday March
6, 2009, with veterinary assistance, due to Congenital Heart Failure. She
passed peacefully and quickly. At the moment she took her last breath both
of the adults (her mother and her uncle) both laid down in the corral as
a sort of "final respect" and a bold wind passed over us and tore across
the pasture. We like to think that was our little girl taking one last run
through our pasture.
Our hearts are broken
that she had to leave us so soon, but we both know that she left knowing
how much she was loved and will be waiting for us. We laid her to rest under
a baby pine on our property so she could rest at peace near her
family.
