I will never forget the day we decided to buy Pyro in utero. We waited several months for him to be born. His mother had 3 previous foals, all palominos, from the same sire so we expected a palomino as the sire was the same as the other foals. The night he was born, he was red as fire with the biggest white blaze I had ever seen and two matching socks on the right side with flame marks up his legs and two cornets on the left front and hind. The mark on his face looked like a candle so we named him Pyro.

When he was weaned we moved from Colorado to Missouri with him. I went every day to play with him in the field and he was like a puppy always following everyone around. He loved to grab things and fling them around, especially his tack bag which when he did this would cause brushes to go flying in every direction.

At a year old I put a saddle on Pyro and he laid down like it was the end of the world, and refused to get up until I took it off...at two we had him started under saddle and he learned to cut cows. For years I went and rode every day and we would go exploring the neighborhoods and nearby trails. He was so reliable and such a love bug. Everyone loved the pint-sized guy standing only 14hh and 900lbs, but built like a tank. He loved to stick his tongue out in photos so it was hard to get any without his tongue in them.

We went on a big trail ride last summer and had planned on doing this again, however I moved away for college and he stayed with my mom. The hardest thing was not being there for him when he got sick and when it was time for him to move on...I was there for everything...his first steps, first halter, first trim, first everything until this.

He was bought for my mom but he was always my baby and I spent more time working with and riding him than anyone else. Last summer, Trae, my brother began working with Pyro on reining as I had purchased another horse and this gave us both a horse to ride. I wish this past year I rode him more...I miss him so much.
