Mocha

Thoroughbred
May 14, 2005 - October 20, 2012

Mocha was my first horse. I rescued him from the racetrack in 2009. He was crazy when I got him. But I didn't give up on him. I eventually joined Pony Club and we got better and better. Then I met the Olympic eventer, Jim Graham. He really liked us and he invited me to be a working student for him at his farm in Alabama! I woke up to Mocha neighing at me every morning, and got to kiss him goodnight every night.

The last three months of his life were filled with the best memories I've ever had. I went to my first rated eventing show with Jim Graham a week before his death. He did great. We placed 7th out of 14 riders. I was so proud of him. We had come so far. I hope Mocha knows that I'll always live in his heart, because when he died, he tore a peice of my heart with him. I love and miss him so much. Rest In Peace, my beautiful angel.

Mocha died very suddenly in October. Only a week after going to a rated show, he bled to death right in front of my eyes. I was just hacking on the hills of Alabama like any other day and when I got off I noticed blood coming from his nose. I called three vets but no one answered. It kept getting worse and wouldn't stop no matter what I did. Finally the vet came out 3 hours later and he was bleeding so bad that he drenched a whole towel in just seconds. The vet said she couldn't do anything and he needed to be taken to the Mississippi State University Vet Hospital. We loaded him up for the 3 hour drive. When we arrived at the hospital he was already gone. He was only seven years old. It's just not fair. We were going to go so far, we were becoming champions. It shouldn't have ended so fast. It seems like within a blink of an eye, he was gone...

The vets did an autopsy and were shocked to find out he had cancer in his neck and lungs. The cancer punctured his carotid artery causing him to bleed to death. They couldn't believe how good he looked when in reality he was so sick. The vets were absolutely amazed how nice of a horse he was for his health. He was a truly amazing horse and athlete.
