This was Mandy, my Quarter Horse paint who was one of my most loyal friends.
Who didn't ever expect much of me except to be sure she is fed, loved and
respected. She accepted me for who I was and nothing more. Even if I have
done something stupid or goofy, she still loved me for whom I am like most
of my true friends still do. I can still feel her out in the corral dragging
her back hooves because she was never in a hurry.
She passed away July 6, 2005 from an infection at the tender age of 14. She
is so missed and my heart is so heavy from the loss. She was not just a simple
pet. She was a 1200 lb wonder of strength and love. She is the production
of what made the American West what it is and that is what made her so special.
If not for her generations of dedication and sacrifice, we Americans would
not be here today!
~ Paint of Dreams
~
One day from the blue
Came a painted dream who cherished friends directed towards my way
Came a dream painted in the most beautiful way of rust and white
Came a creature with the most amazing bright brown eyes
Came the wonderful colors incrusted in her long tail of light
Came the confidence I thought I lost
Came the trust in the unknown
Came what I thought was lost from my youth
Came the love that I thought had disappeared
Came the hardships I thought I could never endure
Came the lesson that faith has a spot
Came the loss and tears of despair
Came the gift that was restored to me in that time of mourning
Came the realization that life is a gift, but not a chore
Came what we all should embrace
Came to know that it can disappear before our eyes
Came to have the utmost honor to have known and loved that beautiful paint
of dreams
