My Sweet Mayhem or "Mae" was my 17hh, eight year old OTTB. I purchased her with high hopes of a brilliantly shining future with this spectacular beast. We spent one summer together with our fair share of problems, but all in all I fell madly in love with my grey angel.
Towards the end of the summer, she began having all sorts of issues with her legs and hooves so frequently that it was becoming ridiculous. In February 2013, she coliced horribly and was nearly put down until she got up, nudged my arm, and was miraculously better. Out of nothing short of a miracle, she became healthy and sound enough to begin spring conditioning. We had an inexplicably amazing time riding and learning about each other once again. Her birthday came and I was so happy that she had made it to April. However, she once again went through another fit of colic on the night of May 26, 2013. After fighting for three hours, I was forced to make the impossibly difficult decision to put my little angel to sleep.
The last ride I ever had with her was in the sunshine on a Saturday afternoon. It was warm and inviting for both of us. She was behaving so well and going round, and I decided to go over a few jumps because life is short. She popped over them with no problem as if she had been jumping all winter. It made me feel fantastic to own such an animal.
I honestly feel so honored to ever love a soul so precious as hers. She will always continue to be in my heart and I will never forget the love she gave to me so willingly. I know that she is out of her constant medical misery and is now up in horsey heaven, and I know that one day I will meet her again and walk her across Rainbow Bridge so that we will be together always.
Rest in peace, little fighter. I know you'll be waiting for me on the other side.
