This is the first horse I ever lost. Macy taught beginner lessons for
me. She was the sweetest horse I ever met. I picked her up from a big sale
barn that in turn had picked her up from a trailer of horses from out west.
She had probably never had much attention and craved it. When I went out
to the barn, she would nicker and come across the pasture to watch me while
I was there. If I was teaching a lesson on another horse, she would stand
in the field and watch. I would let her loose to graze around the barn freely
and she would come to me when called.
I went to the barn one
day and I didn't see her. I walked out in the back of the pasture and she
was just standing there. She didn't come when I called and didn't even look
at me. One of the barn workers said she had been down and wouldn't even look
at some feed he had. I put a halter on and took her up to the barn to see
if she would eat or drink. I hosed her down since she seemed hot and wasn't
breathing well. Her gums were gray and she had a very fast heart rate and
high temperature. The vet came but she was already too far gone.
Her colic had already ruptured and there was nothing we could do. We had
to put her down and I took her to my friend's barn to bury her with a couple
of her old geldings up on a hill.
She was the sweetest horse I have ever seen and I know that she is in heaven
right now getting cared for by the angels.
