KT was a gift horse and
was given to us at the end of a successful racing career. He had so much
zest for life and loved to show off at every chance.
I was suffering from a lack of confidence when I began riding him and he
took all that away. He was such an honest and willing horse. We would gallop
along the beach at full speed and I felt like we were one.
The day that he died was a glorious sunny day, so nice we decided to ride
in the hills. He loved to run up there and take time to look across towards
the sea. We had a lovely ride to the top and decided to stop. Luckily, my
husband, who was riding KT, got off and went scouting for wild mushrooms.
I was holding him and he had a heart attack. Unfortunately, he staggered
and went over the bank. It kills me inside to think you were aware you were
falling, but they tell me that even though you were still with us when you
reached the bottom, you were already gone.
A part of me died when you took your last breath. I am so grateful to the
friend who took considerable risks to bring you home so we could have you
with us. Your paddock mate was with you at the end and misses you greatly.
He's still looking for you. I am still looking for you.
You were one of a kind and I am glad your death was private, with just the
ones that loved you there. I will never kiss your muzzle again or feel the
thrill of the wind in my face as you galloped down that beach. In time I
hope that the bad memories will fade and be replaced by the good ones. You
were loved by all that met you.
Love,
Angela, Russell and Minty
