Fell asleep 12th September
2007 |
A Tribute to KC,
KC was a lovely bay TB gelding,
nearly 20 years of age, belonging to my friend, Marie, who had owned
him for 11 years. I have been helping her with him, for the past few years.
He had suffered with abscesses in his hoof and developed white line disease.
Marie spent time and money trying to help him, but it had become so infected
there was nothing more she could do, so I helped her by taking over all the
arrangements for his final day.
The day came today, September
12, 2007. I arranged the vet and the transport. On time arrived the
vet, a lovely man who suggested taking him to where the sun was shining,
so we did. KC had not been happy for a few weeks, in pain with his hoof,
but today he was calm. I took him into the manage, where he looked around,
almost smiling, before the vet started. I gave him some juicy carrots with
my hand shaking, he placed his nose into my arm as if to say thank you. The
vet was amazing, so kind and gentle. Very slowly, as if about to lie down,
KC drifted off to sleep. It was so peaceful, although I had to be strong
for KC and Marie, inside my heart was breaking, but feel I have helped a
friend, one who could not be there to say her final goodbye, and for KC,
sending him off with the respect he deserved.
I will never forget this
day, but know that he went with someone he knew there. Something only a good
friend could do and to be trusted with. Well, all I can say is I felt
so honoured, so run free now, KC, you will never be forgotten. xxxxx
