At the age of 3 years old, I knew my love for horses flowed in my veins. As I grew older my love for horses grew stronger. Growing up, my parents weren't able to afford a new car never mind buying me a horse!
I was 27 years old when Jessie came to me. Fate had it that I was asked to clean stalls and feed horses for a neighbor down the street. I had been doing this for 2 months. I walked into the barn one afernoon and my neighbor said, "I've got a horse for you.". I hadn't even seen Jessie yet and I knew already she was for me.
I paid $600.00 of my tax return money for her. She was terribly thin, her hooves were a mess, and her coat looked dull. But I saw a beautiful horse with a huge heart.
I actually was told not to buy her from experienced horse people. They were afraid Jessie's future wasn't going to be a healthy one, due to the way she looked. I ignored all that was said, for I knew we were meant for each other.
A few months went by and Jessie turned from the ugly duckling into the beautiful swan. Everyone was in disbelief how good Jessie looked. I told everyone, TLC is the soul for a horse's spirit.
Over the years we learned so much together, but most of all we shared a special bond. She was mine and I was hers.
Jessie was with me for 24 years and she lived to be 30. Age finally caught up to her, and I knew I had to make a decision. It was her time to trot over the rainbow bridge free of pain....galloping to the other side.
Sharing a bond with a horse is a horselover's dream and will last through eternity. Til we meet again my dear girl....may the clover fields surround you.
