I remember the day I met
Sheri and Jaws at a small farm in Somerset. Such a big beautiful Thoroughbred,
full of energy and strength. Sheri carefully watched Jaws as he trotted,
trying to detect any sign of a limp which I just didn't see. She was such
a careful, loving owner.
Sheri bought Star of Barbizon
straight from the racetrack when he was 9 years old. He quickly acquired
the name Jaws since he had such an "attitude". Although she had her hands
full, both she and Jaws learned so much from each other as they attended
college together and had a successful jumping career. They were truly best
friends. Sheri knew every move Jaws was about to make before he even thought
of making it.
About 4 years ago, Jaws
survived a barn fire with only some minor injuries. What a lucky horse! Sheri
tended to his injuries meticulously with tender loving care.
Later in life, Jaws had
to share his Mommy's time with Sheri's first son, Wyatt. Even with a newborn
son to care for, Sheri still made the time to see Jaws every single day.
As Wyatt grew, he and Jaws were good pals and Wyatt truly enjoyed seeing
him and riding him on weekends.
Sheri has a second boy named
Garrett who was born this year and still made time to see Jaws every single
day! She never let her first love take the "back burner". Jaws was always
as important as her children.
On September 11, 2006,
Sheri made the heart-wrenching decision to let Jaws go. Due to his age, he
was suffering from heart failure and Sheri, after 20 years of having him
in her life, decided it was time to let him go, peacefully and without pain.
Sheri gave him the ultimate gift a loving horse owner can do for her devoted
friend and companion.
Jaws, although you needed
daily attention, we all know it was Sheri that really needed you. Thank you
Jaws, for caring for and carrying Sheri all these years. You are a good boy,
we all miss you and love you very much! You will never leave our memories.
Godspeed, big guy!
