Red Leopard Appaloosa
|
8-9 years old (adopted) |
I had to help my girl cross the bridge on March 22, 2015 after a diagnosis of bone cancer. I waited a short while but made the decision before pain became her life or the bone broke under her weight. She was young, 8-9 years old, a rescue that stole my heart at first sight when I met her as a yearling. Such a beautiful, kind and forgiving soul for being born into unkind hands.
I smile as I remember the day I went to meet her for the very first time. She was in a large, 25 acre pasture grazing far away with a herd. My new horse to be, the skinny little red leopard Appaloosa stopped grazing, looked up and began a slow, steady trek straight to me. I stood in awe for what seemed like forever until she was standing right in from of me. How did she know I was to take her home?
The bond was instant and at that very moment she shared my heart. Her life here was short but I am so grateful for the years we had together. I could not have asked for a better companion.
I miss you, my sweet Ivey, and I will listen for you with my heart, as promised.
