Heaven was
sent to us during my third year of riding from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She had been jumped hard as a large pony hunter on the "A" Circuit and had
developed some hock problems that limited her to only jumping 2ft. She was
sent to our farm to become a lesson pony and to teach children how to jump.
As we drove into the farm for my lesson that day she arrived, she ran up
to the gate and neighed to me. As soon as I saw her, that was it. I begged
my trainer to let me ride that beautiful grey mare and finally she gave in.
A week later, my parents came to the farm to discuss leasing her for me.
That day, she became mine for three amazing days a week. I took lessons on
her and showed in the crossrails divisions at the horse shows. She was my
love, my passion and everything I had always hoped for in a pony.
When she couldn't move up to the next level of showing I was devastated.
Although I moved on, Heaven stayed. She was retired at our farm and had a
wonderful life of grazing in the pastures. At the age of 24, she was put
to sleep due to organ failure.
Heaven was my "heaven on earth." She taught me everything that
I know about riding and a lot about purely living and growing up. As much
as I miss her, I know in my heart that she is in a better place. I only hope
that she knows how much I love her, miss her, and how grateful I am that
I had the blessing of riding and loving her for so long.
Heaven, you will always be in my heart and in my mind. You will never be
forgotten.
I love you,
Emma
