Here lies my Gus, my soul mate, my friend.
Ten wonderful years together has come to an end.
We have stood by each other through thickness and thin,
I know one day we will be together again.
I will always remember the first time we met,
Atop your back, a feeling I’ll never forget.
I knew you were special but I had no clue,
You became my forever horse, bonded like glue.
I will always want just one minute more,
But you were not like the horse from before.
If I could have saved you, you know that I would,
The pain was too much and I did what I could.
So gallop on handsome don’t worry about me,
My last gift to you was in setting you free.
Now you are running with legs free of pain,
Where the sun always shines and it never does rain.
I will never forget you my big beautiful one,
You touched my life like no others have done.
Someday we will meet, reunited and free
To cross the rainbow bridge, together you’ll see.
