Lady Fenella was one of her
names. The others that people used were Fen, Nella, Fenella, and my favourite,
Noo-Noos.
Fen was a beautiful 14.1hh,
chestnut arabx welshx New Forest. She was 13 years old when she tragically
broke her leg and had to be put down, on the 20th of January,
2005.
I haven't yet got over
it, and haven't yet accepted that she is gone. I still look at my photos
of her and can't believe that she isn't here anymore.
I have plenty of good memories
of her and naughty ones! My favourite memories of her are when she
was in the big field at the top of my stable land, and she and her friends
used to run around madly in there and really enjoy themselves. The other
lovely memory of her was every time she entered a show. She used to get really
over competitive and it got her somewhere. We managed to come 1st in a show
in the open class. My cheeky memories of her was when I used to go out hacking,
she used to always gallop off, as fast as she could. It wasn't her being
naughty, just being Fen!
It is barely a week since
the tragic accident, and it just won't sink in yet. I feel upset when I think
about the fact that I will never see her galloping round the field with her
friends, or picking up her feed bucket when she was finished, or simply never
seeing her again. It really hit me when I walked out to my yard the other
day and there was no head sticking over her door.
Just so that no one will
forget her, I made a collage of her on her stable door. I'm sure that no
one will forget her in a hurry as she was a one-of-a-kind horse.
Definition of Fen would
be: Pretty, cheeky and the best horse I could have asked for. What upset
me most is the fact I couldn't even say goodbye. She was put down before
I got there. I know that I will never see her again, but I still make sure
that every night I say goodbye to my other horse, Claude, just in case. And
this may sound mad, but I still make sure I pop my head over Fen's door and
say goodnight, but I will never forget Fenella because she was truly
the best horse I could have owned or known.
