In Loving Memory
Yesterday afternoon, our
family lost a beloved member due to a senseless act. Doc was a beautiful
4 year old paint gelding with a heart as big as his frame. He was gentle
and dubbed "Mr. Personality" for his unselfish and loving manner. He was
my husband's equine partner and an irreplaceable part of our family. He carried
my husband countless hours with never a complaint. He could be seen most
weekends at the North Texas High School rodeo arena with various kids or
two riding on his back in the barrel racing practice pen.
Doc loved everyone and never acted up when he had a child on his back. His
loss will be most felt by Might Bella Bright, my appaloosa filly who Doc
"took to raise" when she was 9 months old. Always Big Brother, he looked
after her with our other horses and even stood over her to watch out for
her when she laid down to sleep at night. He never let the other horses bully
her and she was the only horse he would share his feed bucket with. Bella
is coming three years old now and I don't know how she is going to get over
Doc's loss.
Our memories will be those of rodeos and trail rides at the Grasslands,
his "girlie" whinny and trying to lay down in the sand on the trail. No matter
where we took him, Doc drew attention from people passing by. Many times
we would stop to eat after a rodeo and come out to little kids petting his
nose. He loved all the attention and he just loved to be loved. He was just
Doc.
He's now crossed the rainbow bridge where the pastures are always green and
the waters always clear and cool. There is no pain for him now, just peace.
I hope he has met up with Pinto Bean, my paint gelding who left us in 2002.
And I hope they are roaming those green pastures and waiting for the rest
of us.
We hope that God has embraced him and lifted his spirit and we know
that he will always live in our hearts and our memories. There is only one
Doc and he will be loved for eternity.
