Losing Dash has been literally one of the hardest thing I've ever had
to go through. When we bought Dash he'd just been retired from a 6 year
career on the track and there was just something about him we fell in love
with. At 16.2hh he was a gentle giant and with a SI 109 and 2 track records
he was faster than the wind. Dash was one of those once in a lifetime
horses. We instantly bonded, a bond that was noticed by everyone.
I started training him for barrels and he seemed to really enjoy them. We
were suppose to start competing together in March 2005 but that's not what
life had in store for us. On September 29, 2004 in a terrible accident Dash
broke his leg and my heart also shattered. We called the vet to come
immediately as there was no question what had to be done. The vet prayed
for Dash and I and then it was time. I layed his head in my lap and held
on to him tightly telling him how much l love him and that I'd be with him
again someday and with that he took his final breathe. Dash died right there
in my arms and when he left a part of my heart went with him. We buried
him in a lovely spot out behind the house.
I will never know what life would have been like with him in the
future but I do know that there will always be this unfilled empty spot.
Dash definitely left an imprint on my heart that will never fade. Not only
was he my horse but my companion, valentines day date, teammate, friend,
but most of all my buddy.
He wasn't just a horse,
he was the best.
