Diamonds R Jules

Born January 20, 1994 - Died February 6, 2015

It is with heaviest of heavy hearts that I inform all our friends, followers and adopters that on 02/06/2015 we had to let go of a wonderful horse of ours named DJ (Barn Name).  He had suffered from navicular and after that recurring abscesses causing rotation of his coffin bone so much that the lining of the bone was coming through the sole of his hoof.  We are extremely sad at this moment.  DJ will forever be in our hearts and memories.  RIP sweet boy.

DJ was a 21 yr old double registered quarter horse, palomino gelding.  Out of Bit of Impress by Sir Jules Mac.  He was very well broke to ride for any level rider and had riders on him from 5 to 55 years old.  I picked DJ up at a stable.  He did have a slight limp and he had shoes on but I fell in love with him and so I bought him.  I had a few farriers out to see if they could find anything wrong with him and finally one found a severe thrush infection in the deep sulcus of the frog.  It was so bad that I had to use easy boots on him to keep it clean and dry.  Finally after 3 months it all healed up and we had many good trail rides together, several parades, and a few horse shows.

After a few years he started slightly limping so I took him to a vet for X-rays.  They showed navicular and so I had him nerved.  This lasted only 2-3 years but we were able to do a lot of riding together.  DJ was sound for several years but limped on and off.  Then the abscesses started one right after another.  Last spring (2014) we were still able to do some light riding but it only got worse.  I tried everything.  I took him to the vet again and the vet and farrier did some work on his hooves trying to heel the abscesses and they only got worse.  Even with silicone build up and a cast he still abscessed and he had started to lay down a lot outside.  He was an escape artist and didn't care much for being in the stall.  He could open the last and the top knob of the stall and let himself out.  I put him in the end of the barn where the rear door is and he was able to unhook that and get out also!  He had the wimpiest neigh you've ever heard and oh how I miss that greeting every time I come into the barn. :(

DJ started laying down more because of the pain and with the colder weather coming in I was worried about pneumonia.  He still ate, drank, and walked some but very little.  He was in such bad pain that I decided to let him go on February 6, 2015.  A few months before I laid him to rest my daughter did a photo shoot for us and I am so happy we did that.  The above photo is one of those photos, we had colored ribbons in his mane depicting the "rainbow" bridge.  The memories will be forever etched in my heart....I miss him so....Marj
