Copper

Born on May 17, 1987
Boarded at Apple D Acres in Lenox, Michigan

My sweet, darling Copper, whose registered name was Imperial Flight, left us on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. His 27th birthday was on May 17 of this year…just three days prior. This was the hardest decision I had ever had to make. Copper had been diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease about 9 years ago. A year and a half ago - we almost lost him. I was so blessed to have that extra time with this gentle soul.

Copper was a beautiful 16.2 American Saddlebred. He was full of life and personality. We found Copper in Fowlerville, Michigan 20 years ago. It was love at first sight. The first thing he did was pick up a folding chair and throw it across the aisleway - I knew this was a match.

In his prime, we used to show three-gaited show pleasure…and what a blast it was! He was built like a tank and his hooves pounded when he went down the straight away. He always wanted to please me more than anything. For the past 12 years or so, Copper has been my companion and my dear friend. We used to go for long walks around the back field…just the two of us. I would talk to him, and I know he understood. He had never hurt anyone and loved people more than anything. His last days were filled with friends (both human and horse), hugs and kisses, treats, and a birthday party.

I have been so lucky to have such a magnificent, gentle, loving creature in my life. I still can’t believe he’s gone. I wholeheartedly expect to hear his low nicker still. He was such a gentle boy.

Copper…say hi to my mom for me. She’ll take care of you. I miss you so much already, my dear friend. Thanks for picking me to be yours. I love you forever. You’ve been a good horse. I will see you soon.

Love,
Jennifer
