My little Cody was too
young to go on. I wanted him with me for at least 20 more years. His mother
was rescued from an auction. We didn't know if either she or the baby would
survive because of her poor condition.
One morning I found a squirming
little colt struggling to get up. He was tiny, but he managed to get up and
nurse and walk and poop all with textbook timing.
After a month I told my
husband, "Don't worry, as soon as the mom and baby are healthy enough, we'll
find a loving home for both of them." (I tend to accumulate horses...)
He surprised me by saying, "We can't sell the baby! He was born with us!"
I told him then he better come out back and help me halter that little
monster!
He would lie down in his
hay so he could keep eating.
We loved our little guy.
We didn't even know our family wasn't complete until he came along and filled
the space in our hearts.
He was healthy his whole
life until he reached over the fence and ate the neighbor's oleander
bush. The vet came at 3:30 in the morning, but there was nothing he
could do.
