Little girl, you were so brave and strong, stronger than I. You were
born bold, a child's dream filly. Now your spirit is unshackled from the
failing body that held you here with us.
Please forgive me for holding on too long. I thank God for your swift, quiet
passing in the soft grass, under the shade of the maple in our backyard.
The wind in its leaves sang you to sleep. Now you're with your mama in the
high green pastures. We miss you and we'll never forget you. Baby
mine.
She did rejoice that
day
To shake loose the wearied mantle.
Head and tail flown high, her spirit leapt
To take a stride far longer than any in her life.
And galloping, she followed me home.
