Brandi

Quarter Horse & Morgan mare
May 1, 1982 - December 8, 2009

Brandi came into my life on June 4, 1987. My Mom and Dad bought her at 10:00 that morning. She was 5 years old and totally full of it!!

I wanted to show her as I was in 4-H, so I consistently trained her every single day after school all on my own. Her first show she placed 4th in Showmanship. That was her first ribbon ever!! Well, she was a quick learner and by the second year of showing, she was the county champion of many classes and also her division. She continued that all the way up until it was my senior year in high school and I stopped showing to let her "retire" from showing and enjoy her freedom :) She definitely excelled in English, Showmanship and Gaming.

When I got accepted to college (near my parent's camp), I wrote a letter to a friend of my parents who owned a horse farm next to the camp asking her if she could take in Brandi (and my other horse, Dusty) as I didn't want to sell them and I could see them all the time still. She gladly took them both in and Brandi lived there until she passed away on December 8, 2009 due to Lymphoma.

She was definitely "Queen Bee" of the barn and was a favorite among many. She performed well for the little ones during horse camp every summer. In her older age, she was the only horse that an autism child took to and once a week the child was able to spend time with her and grow with her.

She lived a long life and is now with her mate Dusty and is young again! She knew her name and would be way out in the field, as soon as we yelled Brandi, she would come galloping or trotting to the fence to come see us.

I looked back the other day at the large photo album and all the memories came back clear as day. . . .showing, her pacing up and down the fence for me waiting to get off the school bus, standing outside in the middle of a snow or thunderstorm as she enjoyed that for some reason, eating food like no other horse could, waiting for my uncle to finish mowing the lawn so she could eat all the grass clippings he saved for her, riding up at camp, standing by the campfire eating marshmallows with my Mom and Dad and many, many more memories.

She was my horse, my best friend and I miss her every day. I love you Brandi.

Joanne
