Black Beauty

My magical Black Beauty died today, January 7, 2013. She was a huge mare about 16.5 hands and all black!

When I was a child growing up I absolutely loved horses from the very beginning. Proper means for my Mom, Grandmother, and myself just weren't there. I dreamed one day to have my very own Black Beauty and live on my own ranch, married to a cowboy with dark hair.

My dream was partly fulfilled on June 22, 1984, when I married my husband Rob. We both wanted horses but again our means did not support it. But as we matured, found some property, had a couple of adorable little girls with the very same love for horses as we have! Now we have 3/4 of our dream! We have the property, a family, a job that supports them!

Our first one was a small Quarter Horse mare. Slowly we eventually increased our herd. Loved and lost a few but in 2001 or so I got my childhood dream horse! A huge Black Tennessee Walker! I was used to Quarter horses so when I first rode her, it felt like we were just gliding down that trail!! I loved it and she seemed to also!!!  She would 'walk' circles around everyone else!! Although she needed a little work and I took a few spills, I still loved her to death!

Now that I write that word, it's like saying it out loud for the first time. My very own Black Beauty is gone and I will miss her very much. This past year was very hard on her and she tried hard but she just couldn't stand another Idaho winter.

Goodbye, good friend. May your spirit live on! I will never have another one like you!
