Bert, I have finally found
some solace through this wonderful web site. After losing you three days
ago and so many, many tears, I feel like it is okay to grieve over your loss.
You, my friend of 33 years, have given me so much. I can't think of a better
graduation present from high school than to have had you. I was so excited
to finally raise a filly of my own. Little did I know that we would spend
so much time together.
You were an unbelievably great friend to me and a wonderful mother to
the colts you've raised. I've learned so much from watching you out the window
and how you interacted with the other horses. You were the queen that demanded
respect and got it.
Some of my fondest memories is when Clayton was two and a half years old,
riding you all by himself and we were on a very long trail ride. He
got so tired, fell off underneath you, and you never moved a muscle
until he was out of harms way. Or the time you were entangled in vines and
whinnied for me to come to the pasture to cut you out. Then walked behind
me pushing me back to the barn with your nose. The 4-H fairs, the shows on
the east coast, the many riding students who used to love getting on
you, the times I would sunbathe on your back, and the special kisses you
gave me before you retired for the night.
I am not sure how long it is going to take to get over the fact that you
are gone. Your empty stall and your pictures are constant reminders of your
absence. I do know that with time and taking care of your daughter will help
me get through the grieving process. I will forever be thankful to you for
your patience with me, and your rock solid disposition. Your personality
will never be matched. Happy trails to you in heaven, and know I will someday
see you again. Farewell, dear friend...
Love,
Patti
