Good Night my Sweet Prince. Bart was a Prince, so Big, so Majestic and with a Heart of Gold.
Last Friday I awoke to the worst day of my life, to get the call that he was not doing well and arrive to find he had severe colic. We could do nothing to save him but to humanely euthanize him to end his pain. Through it all I held his head and sang to him as I did on our trail rides.
About three years ago I was asked to work with Bart, he had been left at the barn by his owner and had no one to work him. At first a bit scared as he had some very bad ground manners and had become very pushy. Once I took on this big boy, started to groom him and see how he loved to be touched, it was a forever relationship. Each and every day I went to see my boy, groom him and teach him little tricks, kiss his velvet nose.
During our relationship I had been diagnosed with Cancer, through the multiple surgeries my drive was to get back to the barn and see Bart as soon as possible. He was my driving force to get better, to get strong enough to get back on him and ride. By having me work with him, he gave me a second home, one that always was willing to hear my problems and help me through the most difficult time in my life. I truly believe that he helped to heal me faster and stronger through last year. He made me a stronger Cancer survivor. For that I can never take my time with him back, he made my life all the better.
Life is short, we have small opportunities to see life through others' eyes. Bart gave me the opportunity to see the world through his eyes…I gave him love, he gave me confidence, I gave him treats, he gave me trust, I gave him exercise, he made me strong. No one can ever ask for anything better than that in life – nothing but more time.
My life is forever changed by my Soulmate Bart, he will be remembered always and he took a piece of my heart with him when he passed. I know I will see you again my Prince, I love you.
