Born April 21, 1986 - Died May 7, 2009 |
Sadly, I lost my
beloved Archie on May 7. Archie was born in Oregon on April
21 in 1986 to racehorse breeder Raymond Law under the name, "Sharna's Gamble".
He was the great-great-grandson of the famous racehorse, "Nasrullah", and
a cousin to the famous Triple Crown filly, "Ruffian". Archie raced in Oregon
for 3 years only having 3 starts and only earning $2,250. He retired when
he refused to leave the starting gate and required a lead pony escort to
the stables. He was then sold to trainer Carol Wilner in San Juan Capistrano,
California and was trained for Hunter/Jumper. Several years after, he was
purchased by Linda Fitton of RHE, CA and was shown by several riders in the
Hunter show circuit before being bought by one of the riders.
In 2006, when Archie was
20, I bought him to show in hunters and quickly realized how special
Archie was. He loved to be around kids and he especially loved the show ring.
Archie took me to win several over-fences classes before teaching me
the wonderful world of Jumpers.
When Archie was 22, he suffered
an injury in his stall causing him to go to pasture from June of '07 until
February of '09. After coming back from pasture, Archie was brought in to
my training barn, Sky Hill Farms, as one of my lesson horses! Archie
lived the life of luxury teaching kids how to ride and enjoying our local
trails.
Unfortunately, in April, Archie got an infection in his leg that overwhelmed
his system, leaving him stall bound. After 2 weeks of fighting a losing
battle, I made the difficult decision of letting Archie go. He was an
amazing teacher, friend, and secret keeper. I will miss him very much.
