Annie was my first horse and I loved her dearly. I went to an auction to search for a good and gentle horse for my lifetime companion and while I looked into all the stalls, I saw a grey mare standing with her saddle still on. I saw smaller children around her and she seemed so kind and gentle. I decided that she was the horse I wanted to call my own. I purchased her and brought her home.
She was everything I imagined, and taught me how to ride and become the patient person I am today. I rode her through fields, on trail rides, benefit rides for handicapped children and not once did she let me down. She was just a sweet and kind horse like I had always wanted.
I decided that she was going to stay with me even if I outgrew her and she did. I just bought another horse and she became our pasture ornament.
She was getting older and it was getting increasingly harder for her to breathe with her COPD, so I knew this might be her last year with us. At 25 years old, she had quite a nice life with me.
While I was at Farrier School in May of 2011, I was notified by my housesitter that Annie was down and not getting up again. I had to make the dreadful decision of having her put down so she wouldn't suffer. The hardest thing I ever had to do and not even able to say Goodbye to her. I was 650 miles away from home and when I did get home from school two weeks later, she was no longer there.....
I cried and have many wonderful memories of my beautiful dapple grey horse named Annie. Rest in Peace my beautiful friend, I will see and ride you in Heaven someday!
